The science
We don't ask you to take
our word for it.
Every modality at Mind Over Matter Practice is supported by peer-reviewed research. This is not a wellness marketing claim. It is a commitment Dex and Morgwn made when they built the business: if we cannot point to the published evidence, we do not offer the service.
The pages below walk through the physiology of each modality in plain language, with the mechanisms explained and the peer-reviewed references cited. Dex has written these from primary literature. The science is real. The effects are measurable. And you deserve to understand both before you commit your time and money to something.
Floatation Therapy
Float REST
Parasympathetic activation, cortisol reduction, pain relief and sleep quality. How 900kg of Epsom salts and complete sensory deprivation produce measurable neurological and physiological change.
Read the science →Hot and Cold Therapy
Contrast Therapy
Vascular pumping, norepinephrine, autonomic nervous system training. Why deliberate heat-to-cold sequencing produces a different physiological effect to either modality alone.
Read the science →Pressurised Oxygen
Hyperbaric Oxygen
Henry's Law, angiogenesis, inflammation reduction and athletic recovery. How breathing 98% oxygen at 1.5 ATA dissolves oxygen into plasma and drives systemic repair.

Ice Plunge
Norepinephrine response, brown adipose tissue activation, inflammation reduction and stress resilience. The cascade of physiological adaptations triggered by deliberate cold exposure.
Read the science →Thermal Therapy
Sauna
Heat shock proteins, cardiovascular adaptation, dementia risk reduction and cellular resilience. Decades of Finnish cohort data and the mechanistic research behind why regular sauna use extends healthspan.
Read the science →Dynamical Neurofeedback
NeurOptimal
Neuroplasticity, PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, sleep and cognitive performance. How real-time EEG feedback gives the brain accurate information about its own activity so it can reorganise toward greater efficiency.

Hormesis
Every modality at Mind Over Matter Practice works through the same fundamental biological principle: hormesis. A low-dose controlled stressor that would be harmful at high doses produces beneficial adaptive effects when applied at the right dose, with adequate recovery between exposures.
Cold exposure, heat exposure, pressurised oxygen, neurofeedback: each one applies a brief, controlled stress to a specific system in the body. The body responds by upregulating its defences, building greater capacity to handle the same stress in future, and becoming more resilient to a wider range of challenges beyond the original stressor.
This is not a wellness concept. It is a well-documented biological mechanism with decades of research behind it. The reason these modalities produce effects that outlast the session is that adaptation is cumulative. Each exposure builds on the last. The body you bring to session 10 is not the same body that showed up to session 1.
That is the point.
