Frequently asked questions

Everything you need
to know before you come in.

General

When you arrive, Dex or Morgwn will greet you and take you through a short intake process. We will take your vitals: blood pressure, temperature and oxygen saturation, before your session begins. This is standard at every visit, not just your first. We will explain what to expect during your session, answer any questions, and make sure you are comfortable before we begin. First sessions typically take a little longer than subsequent ones as we get your baseline on file.

Yes. All sessions at Mind Over Matter Practice are private and by appointment only. We do not take walk-ins. Book online at book.mindovermatterpractice.com.au or call us on (08) 7516 3625. We recommend booking ahead, particularly for peak times, as each session occupies the full facility for one client or group.

Yes, and we actively encourage it. Many of our modalities compound well together. Float REST followed by NeurOptimal is a popular combination. Floating brings the nervous system to its deepest resting state before the brain training session begins. Contrast therapy followed by sauna, or sauna followed by an ice plunge as a standalone, are also common sequences. When you book, let us know if you are planning to combine services and we will schedule the time accordingly.

We take safety seriously. Vitals are checked before every session and we screen for contraindications as part of our standard intake process. If you have a cardiovascular condition, are pregnant, have a history of seizures, or are on medications that affect blood pressure or heart rate, please let us know when booking. Some conditions require medical clearance before certain services. If you are unsure whether a service is appropriate for you, call us and Dex can talk it through with you before you book.

It depends on your goal and the modality. For general wellbeing and stress management, once or twice a week across one or two services is a strong starting point. For adaptation and measurable physiological change, consistency matters more than frequency. Regular weekly sessions over 6 to 12 weeks produce better outcomes than sporadic intensive use. For NeurOptimal specifically, weekly sessions are recommended during an initial course. For contrast therapy and sauna, the research supports 3 to 5 sessions before cardiovascular adaptations begin to emerge. Dex can discuss what a protocol looks like for your specific goals when you come in.

Some services are suitable for children with parental supervision, and some are not. NeurOptimal neurofeedback is safe for all ages and is used widely with children. Float REST is suitable for children with a parent present. Cold water immersion and high-heat sauna sessions are not recommended for young children. Hyperbaric oxygen has specific age and weight considerations. If you are enquiring for a child, please call us so we can discuss which services are appropriate and what supervision is required.

We hold your session exclusively for you. To allow us to offer your spot to another client, we ask for 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 24 hours will incur the full session fee. To cancel or reschedule, call us on (08) 7516 3625 or email jasovic@mindovermatterpractice.com.au.

Full pricing is available on our pricing page. We accept EFTPOS, credit card and cash. Biological Age Testing requires a deposit at the time of booking. Enquire via email to discuss.

Yes. Virtual Reality is available as an optional addition to ice plunge, sauna and hyperbaric oxygen sessions. Some clients find it helpful for managing the psychological challenge of cold or heat exposure, particularly in early sessions. Let us know when you book if you would like to use it.

Float REST

Most people float without clothing to maximise skin contact with the water and avoid any distraction from fabric. A swimsuit is also fine if you prefer. We provide a complimentary towel and robe for use post-session, as well as hot tea to enjoy after your float.

Many people with claustrophobia float successfully. Our float cabin is king-size, considerably larger than a standard float pod, and you are in complete control at all times. The lid can be left open if you prefer, and the internal light can stay on. Most people who are concerned about claustrophobia find that the experience is nothing like they anticipated once they are inside. If you have significant concerns, call us before booking and we can talk through what the space looks like and how to approach your first session.

Many pregnant women find floating deeply comfortable and beneficial for relieving the physical load of pregnancy. We recommend seeking clearance from your obstetrician or midwife before your first session, particularly in the first trimester.

We provide a complimentary towel, robe and hot tea post-session. Earplugs are available on request. Shower facilities are available before and after your float.

Contrast Therapy

Swimwear or undergarments. We provide a complimentary towel and robe, and hot tea post-session. Attire is available for purchase if needed.

A single cycle moves from sauna into the cold plunge once. A double cycle repeats the sequence: sauna, cold, sauna, cold, for a more intensive autonomic nervous system stimulus. The double cycle produces a stronger vascular pumping effect and a greater norepinephrine response. We recommend starting with a single cycle if you are new to contrast therapy and progressing to double cycles as your tolerance builds.

Contrast therapy places a cardiovascular demand on the body and is not appropriate for all cardiac conditions. If you have a diagnosed heart condition, please seek medical clearance before booking and let us know when you enquire. We will take your vitals before the session and can modify the protocol if needed.

Hyperbaric Oxygen

Comfortable, loose-fitting attire. Remove all external metal including underwire before entering. We provide complimentary attire, towel, gloves, rubber shoes, mask and robe. Virtual Reality is available as an optional addition. Hot tea is provided post-session. Attire is available for purchase if needed.

During pressurisation you may notice a sensation of pressure in your ears, similar to what you experience on an aircraft during descent. This is normal and resolves quickly. You can equalise by swallowing, yawning or gently pinching your nose and exhaling. Once at pressure the chamber is comfortable and many clients read, use VR or simply rest. Depressurisation at the end of the session is gradual and comfortable.

In most cases no. However certain medications, particularly those that affect oxygen metabolism or blood pressure, are worth discussing before your first session. Please disclose any medications when you book and Dex can advise whether any adjustments are needed.

Ice Plunge

Swimwear or undergarments. We provide a complimentary towel and robe, and hot tea post-session. Virtual Reality is available as an optional addition. Attire is available for purchase if needed.

Our Odin plunge tub can reach 0 degrees Celsius and has full filtration, sanitation and temperature control. Temperature is set individually based on your tolerance, experience level and session goal. Please call ahead before your first session so we can have the temperature adjusted to the right level for you before you arrive.

The first few seconds are the most challenging. Your body will trigger a cold shock response: a sharp involuntary gasp and a strong urge to exit. This is normal and passes quickly. Dex or Morgwn will coach your breathing before and during the plunge to help you manage the initial response. We start at a temperature appropriate for your level and work from there. Most first-timers are surprised by how manageable it is with proper breathing and guidance.

Sauna

Swimwear is recommended. Remove all makeup, moisturisers, deodorants and perfumes before your session. Do not eat a large meal within an hour prior. Stay hydrated and bring water. We provide a complimentary towel, bottle cooler and robe. Hot tea is provided post-session. Attire, pH alkaline water and pure electrolyte sachets are available for purchase.

Our infrared sauna operates at approximately 60 degrees Celsius and penetrates 3 to 4 centimetres into tissue, producing a deep heating effect at a more tolerable ambient temperature. It is well suited to muscle recovery, chronic pain and those who find high heat difficult to tolerate. Our steam sauna operates at approximately 80 degrees Celsius and produces a stronger cardiovascular and thermoregulatory response. The long-term cardiovascular and dementia risk reduction data from Finnish research is based on traditional steam sauna at this temperature range. Both produce genuine physiological benefits. Your choice depends on your goal for the session.

Yes. Alcohol should not be consumed in the hours leading up to a sauna session. Alcohol impairs thermoregulation and significantly increases the risk of dehydration and cardiovascular strain during heat exposure. If you have consumed alcohol, please reschedule your session.

NeurOptimal Neurofeedback

No. NeurOptimal is a general wellness system, not a medical treatment. It does not require a diagnosis, a referral or a clinical assessment to use. It is suitable for anyone who wants to support their brain's natural capacity to self-regulate, whether they are dealing with anxiety, sleep problems, ADHD, PTSD, or simply want to optimise cognitive performance and mental clarity.

Most people notice something shifting within the first 6 sessions. Common early changes include improved sleep quality, reduced reactivity and greater mental clarity. For general wellbeing and stress management, 10 to 20 sessions typically produce lasting change. For deeper patterns including trauma, PTSD and ADHD, 30 or more sessions allow the brain to work through more established patterns. Booster sessions can be used periodically to maintain and build on what has been achieved.

Nothing at all. You recline on the Balinese daybed, headphones on, and listen to music. There is nothing to concentrate on, no tasks to perform and nothing to achieve. You can rest, doze or let your mind wander. The NeurOptimal system does all the work. If you fall asleep, the feedback continues. The brain is always listening even when you are not conscious of it.

Biological Age Testing

Dex collects your sample in clinic using the TruDiagnostic finger prick method. A small lancet pricks the finger and a few drops of blood are placed on a dried blood spot card. The process takes only a few minutes and is essentially painless. Your sample is prepared and posted to the TruDiagnostic CLIA-certified laboratory in the United States for analysis.

Results are returned within 3 to 6 weeks of the laboratory receiving your sample. Once results are in, Dex writes your customised report and contacts you to schedule your one-hour results consult.

You can, and the TruDiagnostic data you receive is identical. What you get through Mind Over Matter Practice is the interpretation layer on top of it. Dex writes a full customised report contextualising your results against your health history, lifestyle and goals, and then sits with you for a full hour to explain what the data means, what is driving it, and exactly what to do about it. The test tells you where you are. The consult gives you a roadmap for where to go.

Biological Age Testing is by enquiry only. Email jasovic@mindovermatterpractice.com.au to discuss availability and arrange your deposit. A deposit is required to secure your booking.
