Mind Over Matter Practice exists because Dex went looking for it and found nothing. Not in Victor Harbor, and not anywhere nearby in the form he wanted, with real science behind it and someone on hand who actually understood what these modalities do to the body.

The long way to the right place
Dex finished a degree in health science and sat the GAMSAT, fully intending to go into medicine. He had the results and he had the path in front of him. Then his third child arrived and he made a deliberate call: being a present father mattered more than the decade of sacrifice medicine would have asked of his family. So he deferred, and gave himself time to work out what came next.
What came next was personal. Dex had lived with anxiety since he was a kid. He had managed it, worked around it and pushed through it for years, but never really resolved it. Then, while he was training Muay Thai, he came across cold therapy almost by accident. The effect was immediate, and not only physical. The clarity he felt after a cold plunge, the shift in his nervous system, the way the background hum of anxiety quietened down for the first time in his life, all of it genuinely stopped him in his tracks.
So he did what he always does and went looking for the research. Why did it work? What was actually happening in the body? What else was out there that could do something similar? That search turned up float therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, neurofeedback, contrast work and infrared, a whole field of recovery modalities that were either locked away in academic journals or only available in the big cities to people who could afford a premium wellness membership.
In Victor Harbor there was nothing like it. No single place that brought these modalities together with the science to back them and someone who understood the physiology. So he built one.

Every modality we offer has published research behind it, every science page on this site points back to the primary literature, and anything Dex tells you in a session he can trace to an actual study. It was a founding principle from day one, not because it markets well, but because it is simply the right way to work when people's wellbeing is involved.
Morgwn Jasovic
The other half of everything
Morgwn came to health her own way. She studied health science, medical radiation and naturopathy, a spread that says a lot about how curious she is about the way the body works on different levels. Before she could finish those studies, family took priority: three children, a husband mid-pivot, and a life being built in Victor Harbor.
When Mind Over Matter Practice started taking shape, Morgwn did not slot into a supporting role. She was there as an equal partner and creator from the start, and that included the science. She went through the literature alongside Dex and built the same grounding in how these modalities work, so she can read a study, follow the physiology, and explain what it actually means for someone in plain English. The science is not Dex's department that Morgwn passes along. They built it together, which means everyone who walks in is looked after by two people who genuinely understand what is going on in the body and why.
The business is as much hers as his: the operations, the client experience, the marketing, the content, the voice of the whole brand. Two people who built this because they needed it themselves, in a town that needed it too, and who decided early on that evidence was the foundation, not an optional extra.

Evidence first
Everything we offer has peer-reviewed research behind it, and every science page on this site cites the primary literature. We don't run a service because it happens to be fashionable. We run it because the evidence stacks up.
Private and unhurried
Every session here is private. No shared spaces, no strangers, no performing your recovery for an audience. For the time you're booked, the space is yours and there's no rush to get you out of it.
Genuinely guided
You're never left to figure it out alone. Whether it's your first cold plunge or your fiftieth float, someone who understands what's happening in your body is there to take you through it.
Local and accessible
These modalities existed long before we opened. They just weren't available in Victor Harbor, not at this standard and not with people who understood the science. We built this for our own community first.
In development
Tracking your own progress
We're building a companion app for clients who want to follow their own recovery over time. For those who opt in, it will let you see how your body responds to your sessions and how that changes from one visit to the next, in language that actually makes sense rather than raw numbers. It's there to give you a clearer picture of your own adaptation if that's something you're into. It is not a medical tool and it doesn't decide anything for you, it simply puts your own data in front of you. The studio came first; this is the next piece.
