NeurOptimal Neurofeedback

Train the brain.
Everything else follows.

Your brain is not broken. It has simply learned patterns that no longer serve you. NeurOptimal Dynamical Neurofeedback does not diagnose, treat or push the brain toward any predetermined goal. It holds up a mirror so the brain can see itself clearly and do what it does best: adapt.

NeurOptimal is the only Dynamical Neurofeedback system of its kind. It monitors your brain's electrical activity 256 times per second and delivers micro-interruptions in the music you are listening to every time it detects a shift in brainwave activity. The brain hears these cues, recognises the pattern, and naturally reorganises toward greater efficiency, flexibility and resilience. No protocols. No diagnosis. No effort required from you beyond showing up and lying down.

What to expect

01

Sensor set-up

Two small EEG sensors are placed on the sides of your head and three clips are attached to your ears. These read the delicate electrical activity of your brain. Nothing is sent into your brain. The sensors only read. They do not stimulate, push or influence your brainwaves in any way.

02

Recline and listen

You recline on the Balinese daybed with a blanket and pillow, headphones on, and simply listen to music. There is nothing to do, nothing to concentrate on and nothing to achieve. You can rest, doze or simply let your mind wander. The system does all the work.

03

Real-time feedback

As you listen, the NeurOptimal software monitors your brain's electrical patterns 256 times per second. When it detects a shift or turbulence in brain activity, it introduces a subtle interruption in the music. Your brain hears this, recognises what just happened and naturally self-corrects. This happens hundreds of times across a 40-minute session, entirely outside your conscious awareness.

04

Post-session

Most clients leave feeling noticeably calmer, clearer and more grounded. Some feel deeply tired, a sign the brain has been working and the body is ready for the rest it has been needing. The effects typically build over the 24 to 48 hours following a session, and each session compounds on the last. After 6 sessions most people notice something shifting. By 10 to 20 sessions the changes begin to feel like a new normal.

NeurOptimal does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. It is a general wellness system that supports the brain's natural capacity to self-regulate. For clinical concerns, always work alongside your treating practitioner.

How it works over time

Session recommendations

1–6

First shifts

Most clients notice something changing within the first 6 sessions. Commonly reported shifts include improved sleep quality, feeling more rested, improved mood, reduced reactivity and greater mental clarity. The changes are often subtle at first and build through the week between sessions.

10–20

Lasting change

With 10 to 20 sessions, the new patterns the brain has been learning begin to feel like a new baseline. The calmer, clearer state becomes the default rather than something achieved through effort. For general wellbeing and day-to-day stress and anxiety, this range is typically sufficient.

30+

Deeper work

For deeper or longer-standing patterns including trauma, PTSD and ADHD, 30 or more sessions allow the brain to work through more established patterns at a deeper level. Progress continues to compound with each session. Booster sessions can be used periodically to maintain and build on what has been achieved.

Research-backed

The science

Most neurofeedback systems are linear. They assess the brain, identify frequencies that are too high or too low compared to population norms, and then push the brain toward a more average pattern through targeted training. This requires a diagnosis, a practitioner to set protocols, and regular reassessment. The brain is treated as something that needs to be corrected toward an external standard.

NeurOptimal is built on a fundamentally different model. The brain is viewed as an intelligent, self-organising dynamical system that already knows how to regulate itself. It simply needs accurate information about what it is doing. NeurOptimal provides that information through real-time auditory feedback, without diagnosis, without protocols and without telling the brain what to do. Because no external goal is being imposed, there are no side effects from over-training a state. The system adapts to your brain, not the other way around.

The brain changes in response to repeated experience. This is neuroplasticity, the nervous system's capacity to reorganise its structure and function based on incoming information. NeurOptimal leverages this capacity directly. Each micro-interruption in the music is a piece of information delivered to the brain about its own activity in that precise moment. Repeated across hundreds of interruptions per session and dozens of sessions over time, the brain gradually updates its habitual patterns toward greater efficiency and flexibility.

The analogy most often used is learning a language. Once the brain has learned a new pattern, it does not forget it. It has it in reserve. And like any learned skill, it benefits from periodic reinforcement. This is why booster sessions are useful after an initial course of training is complete.

Anxiety, PTSD and chronic stress share a common feature: the nervous system has learned to operate in a state of heightened activation that no longer reflects the actual threat level in the present environment. The brain is running old protective patterns that served a purpose at some point but are now consuming resources and generating distress without cause.

NeurOptimal does not target these states directly. Instead, by providing the brain with accurate real-time information about its own activity, it supports the nervous system's natural capacity to recognise when it is running these patterns and return to a more regulated baseline. Clients with anxiety and PTSD consistently report reductions in reactivity, improved capacity to tolerate stress and a gradual shift in their baseline from hyperarousal toward calm, not through suppression but through genuine nervous system reorganisation.

Sleep problems are one of the most consistently reported areas of improvement in NeurOptimal clients. Disrupted sleep is often a symptom of a dysregulated nervous system rather than a primary condition. As the brain learns to shift more efficiently between states of activation and rest, sleep quality typically improves as a downstream effect. Clients frequently report deeper sleep, easier sleep onset and waking more rested within the first 6 sessions.

For ADHD, the American Academy of Pediatrics has endorsed neurofeedback as a Level 1 best-practice intervention for children with ADHD. NeurOptimal's non-protocol approach means it does not require a formal diagnosis or a specific training protocol. The brain's own dysregulation is the signal the system responds to, making it accessible to a wide range of presentations. Athletes, performers and professionals also use NeurOptimal for the performance enhancement effects of a calmer, more focused and more efficient brain operating at its natural best.
